Research Blog #6

This entrancing and captivating painting is called The Nightmare and was created by Henry Fuseli in 1781. The artist was definitely successful in capturing the multiple aspects of sleep paralysis such as the uncanny hallucinations, feeling like something is putting pressure on one's chest, a vulnerable supine position, and a feeling of complete powerlessness. It is definitely relevant to my topic especially because it is such a historic masterpiece and in my paper, I would like to include different interpretations throughout different times and cultures. In addition, it seems like the art is quite iconic among the sleep paralysis research community in a lot of the research sources, I have repeatedly seen this painting.
